A warm welcome to the website of the Organ Music Society of Sydney. We have a mission to promote our mutual love of the organ, its literature and practitioners. Organs come in all shapes and sizes and organists do too! Some are more or less hirsute than others.
There is a lot of interest in the wider Sydney community and we hope to do our bit towards both harnessing and cultivating it.
To that end, our committee is focussing our energies on best utilising our resources by promoting as wide a diversity of events as we can, to satisfy the interests of our members and hope to attract an expanded membership.
In July 2024, I particularly emphasise the Sydney Organ Festival as a 'Red letter' series of events including an organ ramble at Sydney University, 4 free weekday concerts by some of Sydney's finest on interesting organs rarely heard in recital and culminating in a masterclass for students given by Olivier Latry from Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris.
In October 2024 we'll have all three sections of our belovèd organ competition in venues within walking distance of each other: SCEGGS Darlinghurst, St John's Darlinghurst and St James King Street.
There's a lot happening this year in your society with future events planned to look forward to. We'd love to see you and meet you at these events which are all listed on our website and in our highly esteemed Sydney Organ Journal. Let's get together to promote the instrument we all love.
