St Mark's Anglican Church
Cnr Darling Point Road and Greenoaks Avenue, Darling Point

Orgues Létourneau Ltée Op.92, 2004 (3/38 electric)

From SOJ Winter 2004:

The original organ for St Mark's was built in 1859 by J W Walker (job no.651) and was installed in 1860. It had 2 manuals with 11 speaking stops (one prepared for), one coupler and pedal pulldowns using mechanical action. In 1916, J Holroyd rebuilt and enlarged the organ to 3 manuals, 23 stops, and 6 couplers using tubular-pneumatic action. The new parts and pipework were supplied from Norman & Beard in the UK. In 1963, S T Noad & Son rebuilt and enlarged the organ bringing it to 3 manuals, 43 stops, and 10 couplers with electro-pneumatic action. In 1976 it was broken up and replaced with an electronic. Only the oak case remained in the church.

After a generous gift from Lady Nancy Fairfax (a long time member of the congregation in thanksgiving for her husband Sir Vincent Fairfax, church warden 1948-49, 1951-71), a contract was signed with the Canadian firm of Orgues Létourneau Ltée for a new instrument of 38 speaking stops to be installed behind the original oak case but with a moveable console on elecctric action. The 32' Pedal Contra Bourdon is elecctronic and located up in the west gallery the opposite end of the church from the rest of the organ.
