Born in Yokohama, Japan, Sayaka began her violin studies at age of three, working with wonderful teachers such as Dr. Shinichi Suzuki and Kazuhiko Osaka. She was a part of Suzuki Method Children's Orchestra tour to Germany at ten years old. She then pursued her studies with Donald Weilerstein and David Updegraff at The Cleveland Institute of Music in the US where she was awarded a special prize for "Distinguished Violinist" upon completion of Master's Degree in violin performance. She participated in major music festivals such as Aspen, Tanglewood, and Sarasota. She is a prize winner of Fishoff National Chamber Music Competition (Indiana, USA) along with many other prizes. She served as the principal second violin of the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the concertmaster of Cleveland Women's Orchestra with which she made numerous solo appearances. She is an active recitalist and chamber musician as well as a dedicated violin teacher. She is grateful to St Stephen's Uniting Church for providing opportunities for musicians to perform at Friday Music Series.
Kayoko studied at Mukogawa Women's University in Japan with Boris Bekhterev and with the late Naoyuki Inoue, himself a pupil of Rudolf Serkin. She also holds a Master's degree from Moscow State Conservatoire. Kayoko is an experienced Chamber Musician. In Japan, replacing Boris Bekhterev, she appeared a number of times in Russian Embassy, both as soloist and accompanist. For several years she participated in the Kobe Memorial production of Verdi Requiem. She and her husband, a former pianist Dong-Jun Ha, were a Piano Duo. In 2005 they played in Kobe International Competition and received an award. Kayoko now lives in Sydney Australia where she studies privately with Phillip Shovk, runs a home studio, and prepares future performances. She has played at Sydney Opera House, Crows Nest Performing Arts Centre, and Lindfield Uniting Church. She has recorded for ABC Classics.

Nexas was formed in 2002 when Ben Carey, Andrew Smith, Nathan Henshaw and Jay Byrnes (then studying for their Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music) joined forces to create one of Sydney's most promising young chamber music groups. Since it's formation, the quartet has been active in supporting new Australian music, providing young and established composers with an outlet for their compositions to be work-shopped and performed. In recognition of their work, in 2003 Nexas was awarded the Wal Hardwick Memorial Scholarship for excellence in chamber music by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Association. Nexas is an open-minded ensemble that shows no fear in exploring the polymorphic nature of the saxophone. This was aptly demonstrated by their 2004 collaboration with the PACT theatre group. Here Nexas performed music written by Margery Smith, as well as utilising contemporary improvisation in the work 'Song's of Ghosts'. In July of 2004 Nexas attended the European University for the Saxophone, held in Gap, France. Here the quartet gave performances of French and Australian music, including European premieres of works by Paul Stanhope, Stuart Greenbaum and Margery Smith. Nexas has been privileged to perform in master-classes with Claude Delangle (Professor of Saxophone at the Paris Conservatoire), and the Diastema Quartet (Paris). In their 2008 season, Nexas continued to be very active in the Australian Music Scene. They were awarded an Australian Arts Council Grant for the commissioning of a new work by Sydney composer, Amanda Cole. They have also performed at various Music Clubs and Music Festivals as well as undertaking a tour of regional NSW in May.

Charisma was founded by clarinettist Roslyn Dunlop and cellist Julia Ryder in 1995 to explore and develop music for clarinet and cello. The group has premiered many works and enjoys an international reputation for lively and virtuosic music-making, receiving critical acclaim for tours in Australasia and Europe. Programmes include works spanning four centuries and four continents. Many composers from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Britain and Germany have written works for Charisma. They Frequently conduct composer workshops, and are particularly keen to encourage emerging composers. Charisma moves easily across all kinds of musical boundaries – from classical to blues, avant-garde to tangos, and minimalist to multi-media works. The marriage of styles has led to performances in unconventional venues such as jazz clubs, art galleries, bars and open spaces as well as traditional concert halls. Collaborations with musicians and organizations have led to concerts of eclectic repertoire, such as the art exhibition "State of Art Peace", giving multimedia performances about human rights commencing in Manly Gallery and then regional NSW in 2004. They frequently collaborate with other musicians to expand on the trio repertoire. With guest Violinist Chris Kimber they gave many performances of the Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time, in 2004 & 2005. Recently with guest violist Valmai Coggins they gave a stunning performance of Moya Henderson's "G'day Africa" pieces. They have recordings on CD and record for the ABC.
Ros Dunlop is one of Australia's leading clarinetists/bass clarinetists. She has been a strong advocate of new music for the clarinet & bass clarinet all her professional life. She has commissioned many Australian Composers and premiered many new compositions by composers worldwide. Ros has performed throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, East Timor and the USA, Her CDs have received International acclaim. Ros is a founding member of Charisma, with whom she has commissioned and premiered many new works including many multimedia premieres. In 2003 she embarked on an extensive project in East Timor, recording the traditional music of East Timor thus preserving it for future generations. She has been involved in music projects & concerts there ever since. Ros teaches clarinet and chamber music at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Julia Ryder has earned a reputation as one of Australia's most accomplished performers. She has won various prizes for her interpretation of Beethoven and chamber music as well as for her performances at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik. She has worked with composers such as Messiaen, Xenakis, Ferneyhough and Finnissy and has toured and recorded extensively as a soloist and with Australian and European ensembles and also appearing regularly at major festivals in Australia, Asia and Europe. Julia records for ABC Classics, Etcetera records (Holland) and Virgin Classics. She is a founding member of Charisma and Michelangeli Ensemble. She teaches chamber music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
David Miller is one of Australia's leading chamber musicians and vocal accompanists. The Sydney Morning Herald described him as "the role model of Australian accompanists. He has been awarded an AM for his services to Music. His distinguished career has included partnerships with many internationally renowned artists, Joan Carden, Marilyn Richardson John Pringle, to name but a few. He has performed with The Huntington Trio, Flederrman, The Song Company, The Australia Ensemble. He is a founding member of the Grevillea Ensemble. He has performed in the U.K, New Zealand, Indonesia, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, New Caledonia, Korea, Vanuatu and Vietnam. He has recorded for Walsingham Classics, Tall Poppies, Vox Australis, 2MBS-FM and ABC Classics. David Miller is on the staff of Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is Chair Ensemble Studies.
