The 1968 Pogson organ has been augmented by the latest digital technology, together with a new console, by Ian Sell.
The organ will be opened on FRIDAY 2nd MAY, 2014 at 7.30pm by the international recitalist and prize-winner, Sydney based organist David Drury. The builder will also talk briefly about the augmenting and updating of an established instrument.
The organ will be dedicated on the following day, SATURDAY 3rd MAY, at 5.00pm at special Service of Dedication, when the St John's choir will perform music by Gounod, Elgar and Shephard.
On SUNDAY 4th May, at 10.00am the St John's choir will give the first performance of a new mass by Colin Brumby, Missa Sanctae Ceciliae, written to commemorate the installation of the new organ.
The weekend will finish with choral evensong led by the Cathedral Singers on SUNDAY 4th MAY, at 6.00pm, who will sing music by Stanford and Kelly.
All are invited to attend either, or both, of the above events. Entry is free and un-ticketed although the church would appreciate an RSVP, so that sufficient catering can be ensured. Replies can be sent to the parish office on office@stjohndeewhy.org.au or at 9971 8694.
Further information is available either from Tom Edwards, Organist and Director of Music, at the parish office or from music@stjohndeewhy.org.au.
