Welcome to the Organ Music Society of Sydney's website. Please browse at your leisure to discover the wealth of organ and organ-related concerts available to the lovers of the music of the King of Instruments in Australia's premier city. Much is on offer from the grandeur of our great Town Hall, Cathedrals and University organs to the intimacy of our chamber organs. You will find instruments and performances to satisfy an enormous range of tastes and specialities, and will be thrilled to discover that many of the performances are free.
I would like to dedicate my time as president to our young organists. What makes we organists love our instrument? Why do we spend so much time around organs and organ music? I think there is a memory within us all, of the thrill we got when we first played a Grand Organ. The excitement, the magic of the moment stays with us always. We need to inspire, enrich and provide opportunities for young musicians to experience the organ. We need to ensure that the community of organ people is a growing one and what better way than through our youth.
Beside many useful and interesting links, you will also learn about the Organ Music Society of Sydney. This vibrant society includes among its regular activities the publishing of a substantial magazine, The Sydney Organ Journal and a Sydney Organ Concert Guide four times a year, the organising of the annual Sydney Organ Competition, events for organists, young and old, and visits to interesting, historic or new instruments, often with the opportunity for members to play the instruments. Membership is open to all and gives the opportunity for camaraderie, the exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as the soul-stirring joy of simply sharing that magnificent music which brings our glorious instrument alive. Joining the Society is simple - you will find a membership form as part of this site - and you will be warmly welcomed.
