St Judes's Anglican Church
106 Avoca Street, Randwick
Hill, Norman & Beard (Aust) 1965 using some 1866 Walker pipes (2/27 electro-pneumatic)
From SOJ August/September 1987, Autumn 1997, Winter 1997:
The first pipe organ in this fine historic church was built in 1866 by J. W. Walker of London with one manual and six speaking stops . Early this century it was moved to St Mary ' s Catholic Church in Mudgee, although virtually all the pipework was retained at Randwick and used in a new organ built for the church by Charles Richardson of Sydney in 1904 . The new instrument had two manuals and tubular-pneumatic action.
In 1965 the organ was totally rebuilt by Hill, Norman & Beard (Aust) Pty Ltd and a superbly crafted detached drawstop console with standard electric action accessories was provided. The organ was enlarged through the addition of bright upperwork according to the tonal ideals of the mid l960s. A number of other stops were obtained through extension. The present instrument contains 1, 516 pipes over two manuals and pedals with electro-pneumatic action. Two façades of the Walker case comprising some Open Diapason and Dulciana pipework face into the chancel andd the Hill, Norman & Beard case, comprising the Principal Bass faces into the nave. A new Great Mixture made by Orgues Létourneau (Canada) replaced the previous Great Mixture in 1998.
