Liverpool Presbyterian Cemetary Chapel

From the SOJ Spring 2007, Peter Jewkes writes:

When a new chapel-cum-mausoleum was under construction for this historic cemetery, Organ Music Society of Sydney and Organ Historical Trust of Austalia member Charles Bardwell, in his capacity as Manager, succeeded in procuring a charming small 2 manual instrument from a private residence in Melbourne. This attractive organ was made by Marc Nobel in the 1987. The Jewkes firms' Rodney Ford travelled with Charles to Melbourne to confirm the organ's suitability for its proposed new home, after which it was dismantled by arrangement with Laurie Pipe Organs of Melbourne, and moved to the Jewkes Works in Sydney for storage until the chapel was complete.

It was then installed at Liverpool by the Jewkes team, with some minor tonal finishing by Peter Jewkes to adapt it to its new surrounds. The organ now sounds well and gives good service in the chapel, where its beautiful case with elaborately fretted pipe shades provides an excellent visual focal point. The plinth atop the case is decorated with the Latin text of the opening phrase of the Magnificat - "My soul doth magnify the Lord".
